Southern Pacific Railroad Police caboose No. 4709 rolls west on the rear of a SP freight at Vail (Cienega Creek), Arizona, on April 22, 1990. SP had several of these cars that were used by special agents and railroad police as they rode trains to combat theft and other damage, especially to high-priced cargo such automobiles and intermodal loads. Several C-50-9 class bay-window cars (along with one former Rio Grande caboose) were painted up bright white with special lettering and SP police shields for this service. SP No. 4709 now even has spotlights and air conditioning!
