The stars slowly begin to make their way out from behind the clouds of a passing rain squall while the darkness of the night is briefly lightened by the headlights of a P42DC as Amtrak 14, the northbound Coast Starlight, streaks past the aging sugar beet loader at Corporal and heads toward its next station stop of San Jose. Once the loading location of Southern Pacific sugar beet train's consisting of wooden gondola cars dating back to 1945, locations with loaders like the one here saw their operation come to an end in the late 1990's as Holly Sugar's Tracy plant closed its doors. Despite being right off Highway 101, this location has remained relatively untouched beside the few marks of graffiti on the loader.
