Remarks & Notes
Sometimes you just get lucky. The snow fleet as it is known on the Alaska Railroad consists of Jordan Spreaders pushed by Geeps. Called to head south to clear the line between Portage and Seward, which hasn't seen a train in a few months, at 0600. This is where the luck begins, currently sunrise is about 0900 and actually sun clearing the mountains about 1000. So a 0600 call didn't bode well nor did the intense ice fog Anchorage was experiencing that morning help matters either. Spreader problems concerns caused a delay and to make matters even better the weather had cleared to the south resulting in this photo of the snow fleet at Bird Point. In about 25 more miles this train would be pushing 4 & 5' of snow. Unfortunately that part of the rail line is road less so this shot will have to do.

The reason railpictures.net has captured my imagination for so many years. Images of quality and distinction, in other words, amazing railroad photography.
Good Light, Good Scenery, and a Train

Landscape photography is difficult due to the challenge of combining good light and good scenery. Good railroad photography enters another level of complexity since it requires the first two while there is a train in view.

I'm surprised the photographer was able to click the shutter on his/her camera for these pictures; it looks so cold.
