What a breath taking view! There's quite a lot going on in this image, and is one of my favorite from my years of documenting this monumental construction project known as Manhattan West. The open air section of the NEC that is below street level for approximately a city block is in the middle of being covered over in this photo. The bright yellow beams are part of this rolling crane called "the launcher." Hollow concrete sections are brought in and glued together on site. You can see one half assembled under the launcher. Once formed to span the entire width, the launcher lifts it up and drops it into place, working toward Penn Station and the old post office (what is being turned into Moynihan Station). B&H Photo/Video Super Store with the green signs wrapping around the building is just to the left of Moynihan Station. The New Yorker hotel is in the background, there's and even an AEM-7 departing with a train.
