Remarks & Notes
Just cresting the 13 mile 1.3% grade out of Bend, this southbound Oregon Trunk manifest is about to clear the lava field at the Newberry National Volcanic Monument. There have been no eruptions here for approximately 7,700 years but geologists say that future eruptions "are a certainty".

The Oregon Trunk, the route most well known for the Deschutes Railroad War, still sees BNSF-and at times detouring UP-traffic today. This album covers all images taken along the line between Celilo and Chemult, Oregon.
