Remarks & Notes

As Bear Grylls would say, "water follows the path of least resistance". It is for this reason railroad tracks often follow rivers through the mountains. Rivers carve out a narrow path through the otherwise inaccessible terrain. In this image, a freight train traveling from Portland, Oregon to Roseville, California follows the Upper Sacramento River through the rugged hills near Sims. Below the train you can see Mears Creek, a large tributary of the Sacramento River.
