Remarks & Notes
One of a kind BNSF 9297 leads the M CASDEN3 05 approaching Burns Jct. at Broomfield, CO. SD60M BN 9297 was repainted into this experimental scheme after the BN + ATSF merger in 1996. The red striping on each half of the unit was different. The unit was to tour the system for employee reaction. Ultimately neither scheme was used and a slightly lighter shade of orange with a yellow stripe became BNSF's first official paint scheme. BNSF 9297 was renumbered BNSF 8197 and again to BNSF 1474. The SD60M fleet has been sidelined on and off due to economic slow down and the arrival of new power, some units also being sold. Miraculously as of October 2016 the unit is still working for BNSF in local service out of Minnesota in this same paint scheme 20 years later.
