There's only one place in Switzerland where you can enjoy a real diesel-hauled passenger train: The fabulous Furka Pass line, operated by the Dampfbahn Furka Bergstrecke. Here we're at the summit of the line, the "Furka" station. The locomotive is one of only two "HGm 4/4"s. It was built in 1967 and has two 12 cylinder Cummins engines with a total power output of 1134 kW, runs on metre gauge and, if needed, the Abt rack system. It does not provide head-end power, since the two locomotives were originally build mostly for removal and reinstallation of the catenary of the Furka line, and snow clearing.
Today, one of the units is rented by the DFB on an engine hour basis, and hauls a hiker's train over the pass and several fire fighting trains (between steam trains) from Oberwald to Gletsch and back.
