Both trains handle mixed freight commodities. 173 is headed towards Birmingham from Linwood, NC, with a final destination of Sheffield, Alabama. 154 originated at Norris Yard in Birmingham and is bound for Linwood, operating with the Wabash heritage unit on the rear as a distributed power unit.
