A Southern Pacific eastbound train passes the Amtrak Palm Springs station at what the SP called Garnet, California, on November 7, 1981. This train has one of those locomotive consists that made the railroad so popular with railfans, as it has a wide variety of locomotive models: An SD45, an SW1500 (!), a GP9, an SD9, another GP9 and a U33C.
