On a warm summer night in the early 80's, the conductor of a work train in the process of removing the second track chats with the local section foreman before tying up for the night. This is typical for the early years of Conrail, where a lot of redundant trackage was removed to cut costs.
This shot was taken at the Lake Shore Railway Museum's annual Night at the Railroad Museum event, held every Father's Day weekend in North East, Pennsylvania. NetzlofDesign of Brockway, Pennsylvania has organized and conducted the night photo shoot at the event since 2012. ND and LSRHS crews transformed ex-NYC 2500 into its Conrail patched lettering for this year's event, to honor Conrail's 40th anniversary. The 1988 GMC hi-rail truck is owned by Rick Rowlands, president of the Youngstown Steel Heritage Foundation. NetzlofDesign would like to extend its sincere thanks to Rick for bringing this awesome piece of rail history to the event!
