A one of a kind, and originally purchase Tennessee Alabama & Georgia Railroad GP38 number 80 is finally restore in its original paint. TAG 80 the John A. Charnbliss to honor of a businessman who had been instrumental in purchasing and reorganizing the TAG in the 1920s. This locomotive was the very last new diesel purchase by the small railroad in 1968 which seen service on the TAG Railroad for 3 years. By Jan 1971 the TAG Railroad was purchase by the was purchased by the Southern Railway which was eventually painted the TAG 80 in the tuxedo black, but kept the name John A. Charnbliss on the side of the locomotive Southern Railway also renumber the locomotive into SOU 2879 and dynamic was added later on to the engine. No. 2879 stayed in service through the Norfolk Southern merger of the 1980s and was painted in the Thoroughbred paint scheme, but kept its "TAG" sublettering and spark arrestors which the sublettering was drop later on. In 2001 Norfolk Southern had but NS 2879 was retired and put into storage in Altoona, PA. Later the Tennessee Valley Railroad purchase the GP 38. Today is the genesis of the TAG 80 sitting in the Soule Shop getting minor repair before the locomotive get ready for its first run in service
