Farewell to Kingston Bringing up the rear of a "Rock 'n' Rails" train (named for several bands performing on-board through out the day), perhaps one of the last trains to ever run on these rails, bound for downtown Kingston, New York to be bedded down for the night, was Catskill Mountain Railroad ALCO RS-1 #401 carrying the flag of the United States of America and two white flags, possibly to indicate the railroad's surrender to the County of Ulster.
The Catskill Mountain Railroad has been fighting a battle with the County of Ulster and has seemed to have lost. Instead of rail service, the County is in favor of replacing the CMRR with a paved path. Though there is hope for the railroad, there is a possibility that it may be able to get another five-year lease with the county, and will hopefully continue to operate for at least the following five years.
