Ab 608 approaches Ava with special from Wellington marking 100 years of ANZAC Day honoring our war veterans. Built in 1915, this locomotive was dedicated as a war memorial honoring the railwaymen who did not return from WW1. It is owned by New Zealand Railway & Locomotive Society. The restoration cost over $500,000, mostly raised by donations.
