Remarks & Notes
J Class Nº 611, built in May 1950 by the N&W Railway's Roanoke Shops, 611 was one of three in the last group of J's built. The total number of J's listed 14 units beginning from 1941, the J's easily could maintain a speed of 100mph and were the most modern steam locomotives built. In the early morning hours of April 10, 2016, the only surviving J, Nº611 stands in Spencer, North Carolina with a full head of steam. 611's light weight rods and 70" drivers always draw attention to young and old alike.
