Remarks & Notes

Twilight at Lava Tank. Shortly after sunset, a D&RGW Flanger Outfit pauses for water at Lava Tank, before returning to Antonito for the night. There's a reason why this location is known as "Lava." The mesa on which it sits is essentially a volcanic lava flow that happened about 25 million years ago. Although that was a rather long time ago, the reminders of this place's tumultuous past are everywhere, in the form of loose pieces of volcanic basalt and pumice. Fortunately, mother nature has settled down a bit in her old age. The desert is a quiet place these days, with only the sound of the wind in the sagebrush, and the occasional passing train.
