Perhaps the most obscure section of street running still in operation, which I didn't even know existed until we stumbled upon it during this outing. For 2 blocks in a mixed industrial/residential neighborhood in Sanford the A&W runs down Globe Street. Oddly, despite being fairly busy and right in town, the street has not been paved - which I assume would be rather costly with the tracks. At first glance when we were looking for photo spots, I thought the line may be out of service here as the rails were all but invisible in the dirt. However, the passage of 2 Geeps with several cars soon opened a flangeway right up! NOTE: The train was heading away from the photographer at the time of this shot. The A&W typically uses a manned loco on each end to facilitate more efficient switching moves.
