Four Montana Rail Link SD45s shove hard on the rear of a westbound BNSF grain train climbing Mullan Pass at Iron Ridge cut just east of Weed, Montana, on September 2, 2003. A total of 12 six-axle locomotives are required to lift this heavy train up the 2.2-percent grades. No. 346 is actually labeled an SD45-2M by MRL is former N&W No. 1779. Trailing behind is former Wisconsin Central SD45 No. 1701 (also ex-N&W with same number) and former Seaboard Coast Line No. 8905. Last unit in the consist is former Pennsylvania Railroad 6233, now MRL No. 375.
