M&E on the GSS
Morristown & Erie makes a rare appearance on Conrail's Garden State Secondary. Earlier on this frigid but clear morning, M&E 18 delivered GP7u 23 to the refinery at Bayway. Here 18 is hauling M&E 20 back to Morristown for some much-needed maintenance. This move was piloted by a Conrail crew with the symbol SK-87 between Kearny (Center St. Branch) and Bayway. It was pure coincidence that the electronic billboard advertisement colors complement the color of M&E's power. The high sound barrier separates the residents of Elizabeth from the New Jersey Turnpike, but not the railroad. The temperature at the time of this photo was hovering around 8ºF. |
