| A northbound empty grain train rolls along the Clear Fork River as it nears the end of the mountainous terrain traversed by this section of the former L&N. A few miles north of this location is the site of the troop train wreck of 1944, where a southbound troop train destined for Fort Bragg, NC jumped the tracks at the first sharp curve in the narrows. The engineer and 35 troops perished, and over 100 were injured. Today all that marks the location is a small sign on the side of the road. |
