Classics cross paths in Burnett, WI. At yard speed, SOO 1003 crosses Market St. in tiny Burnett, WI, on her southbound journey to Hartford. Greeting our classic Mike on this sunny morning is another classic, a 1957 Ford Thunderbird. As staged as it may look, the scene you see here really wasn't planned at all. When our photo freight arrived at Burnett, it performed a run-by prior to a planned fuel stop in the yard next to the Peachy Brothers Elevator. As the train backed slowly through the crossing, one of our charter leaders spied this classic red T-Bird waiting patiently with a dozen other cars for the train to clear. Moving quickly, our charter lead ran over to the driver and asked him straight up: "Hey, how would you like to participate in a photo shoot?" Immediately, the guy agreed. He indicated he would love a photo of his car with the big steam engine for a potential magazine cover....and of course, we all wanted that same photo. So, about 5 minutes later, we set the scene and voila! Two very sweet pieces in one shot.
