| This shot is a companion to my image #555832 and was taken about half a minute before it. This time of year it is often a race between the afternoon loaded coal train’s arrival at a photo location and the setting sun. This day the train won, but just barely. Five minutes after the train’s passage this scene was in deep shadow. My first glimpse of the approaching train was its headlight up on Holum Pass to the east. The pass is the lowest spot on the skyline ridge, The train coils down from the pass, crosses over Blue Mountain Road and begins a climb across the sagebrush covered plain. |
