Remarks & Notes
After initially plowing snow on the main the day before, Rio Grande spreader AX-41 spreads snow off the right-of-way at Cliff, Colorado, on March 21, 2003. A major blizzard closed transportation through much of Colorado on March 17-20, 2003. Denver received 31.8 inches, while Coal Creek Canyon got 71.8 inches and Rollinsville 87.5. With Pinecliffe located between the two, it received a whopping 6 to 7 feet of snow! And it was the heavy and wet spring stuff too. On the right is a westbound empty coal train that found tough going in the midst of the storm, and tied down in Cliff siding for the duration.
