46100 "Royal Scot" was built in 1927,to handle 100 mph express services from London to Scotland. The loco was chosen to represent Britain at the 1933 'Century of Progress' exhibition in Chicago. The loco and a rake of coaches were shipped to the United States and appeared not only at the exhibition, but also toured the U.S.A. and Canada, even crossing the Rocky Mountains. The loco was withdrawn from main line use in 1962 and became a static display at a holiday camp. She was briefly steamed in 2009,when it was discovered that a major overhaul was required. The Severn Valley Railway Steam Gala,in September 2015,was chosen for the triumphant return of this magnificent machine, the first time I had seen her in charge of a passenger service for 53 years !!!
