We’re standing on the Jersey Central right-of-way, watching a westbound 86-car Conrail train descend the ramp to the Lehigh Valley main line. This ramp was built as a result of the 1965 shared trackage agreement between the two roads that eliminated parts of both main lines, including the CNJ main line between here and Packerton Junction. Three predecessor units in unpatched paint lead the train, although the PC GP30 has had its hood lettering painted over.
