After running up Main 2 alongside eastbound 10A for much of the length of it’s West Slope climb up the Pittsburgh Line, it was only natural that 36A would follow the same practice on it’s descent, being no more than half a mile away from 10A’s headend during much of it’s duration down the mountain. NS 911, the railroad’s “Honoring First Responders” commemorative locomotive eases 36A’s 94-car train down the East Slope of the Allegheny Front, dropping down through an area known as McGarveys, knocking down the PT 239 intermediate on it’s way east towards Altoona. Unlike the unfortunate souls who were waiting in anticipation further west in the confines of the Horseshoe Curve park, the rock bluffs at McGarveys provide an excellent view (as well as a quiet and unimpeded view) of the train’s Track 2 passage as it runs it’s final miles on the East Slope before grinding to a halt in Altoona for a crew change and the removal of it’s helpers.
