The Class 20E dual voltage 3kV DC / 25kV AC electric locomotives, built in China by Zhuzhou Electric Locomotive Co., a subsidiary of the China South Locomotive and Rolling Stock Corporation (CSR), are some of Transnet Freight Rail's newest additions to their fleet. Four of these locos are seen here at Heidelberg on the Natal main line, returning to the Northern Cape from Mittal Steel in Newcastle, with iron ore empties. The leading pair of locos are 20 010 and 20 007, two of the batch of 10 built in China. Units 20 011 to 20 025 were assembled from knock down kits at Transnet Engineering's (TE) Koedoespoort works in Pretoria. The bodies for the rest of the class from 20 026 upwards will be built by TE from locally manufactured components, as represented here by the second pair, 20 052 and 20 050.
