Between 2008 and 2013, Pacific National ordered 46 3'6" gauge GT42CU-ACe locomotives from Downer EDI in Maryborough Queensland, classifying them as the 83 Class. For some reason the last six locomotives in the order were cancelled when already partially constructed, but Downer completed the locomotives in the hope of leasing or selling them at a future date. Carrying a classification of LDP (there are also some Standard Gauge EDI locomotives classed LDP, which were originally made available for hire) they are still in storage awaiting interest from an operator. Here we see LDP018 sitting in the sun at the Maryborough plant, in partial Pacific National livery. Note that the originally intended road number of 8350 is also visible stuck to the nose.
