Remarks & Notes
Beamish museum held their annual Great Steam Event this weekend and one of the working exhibits was this recreation of the use of narrow gauge engines on temporary lines. Around 100 years ago, in the UK, when roads were being developed, narrow gauge locomotives were used to haul materials to the site. A temporary line was laid down, locomotives used were very light in weight pulled small hopper wagons filled with hard core to form the basis of the road bed. Here Peter Pan is hauling an empty hopper to the road gang who will fill it up with broken bricks made by the machine in the top left hand corner. It was early morning as can be seen by one of the navvies cooking breakfast on a fire
