Remarks & Notes

Ascending Elkhorn grade in the final minutes of daylight, a pair of NS C40-9W's drag 100 loads of Appalachian mined coal over the N&W mainline toward Bluefield. Snow and cold temperatures have made for a longer than usual assault over the peak 1.4% grade, but with AC helpers assisting on the rear, this heavy coal drag will successfully make it over the grade into Bluefield in less than two hours.
