Remarks & Notes
Eastern veterans
Two Chicago and North Western locomotive veterans that originated on eastern railroads sit at the Butler, Wisconsin, engine facility. EMD GP40 No. 5518 was originally New York Central/Penn Central/Conrail No. 3029, while Alco C628 No. 6719 toiled for Norfolk and Western. The Alco is freshly-painted in the then new “Zito yellow,” and strikes quite a pose in the bleak Wisconsin December gloom.
