It's a passenger train! It's a freight train! It's ... a 30-car mixed train! Amtrak #3, the westbound Southwest Chief, departs Fullerton, California, on July 13th, 2003 - just shy of 6 hours late! This train was led by P42DC 169, a Dash 8-32BWH (#505), two more P42DCs and consisted of a baggage car, 11 passenger cars, 4 express box cars, 3 mechanical refrigerator cars and 11 Road Railer trailers! Within a few years, the express business would go away and the trains would revert back to their traditional lengths.
