R761 has just led D3 639 into Melbourne's Southern Cross station returning from the 'Maldon Steam Spectacular' on the Victorian Goldfields Railway. Another chapter in the history of the Victorian Railways was brought to close as B. J. Eaton, the last remaining fireman to have worked on the VR (he signed up in 1965), retired after working this trip. In traditional VR style this notable information was chalked on the smokebox door.
