During the high-horsepower race in the late ‘90s, four 6,000 horsepower Electro-Motive Division SD90MAC-H locomotives, along with EMD’s test car, head up to East Portal, Colorado, for some high-altitude testing on January 30, 1998. Cantering alongside the tracks at Leyden are two women on horseback, while in the background and leading the way is EMD No. 8504, decked out in a special scheme for EMD’s 75th anniversary that was later affectionately nicknamed “Shamu.” The other three SD90MAC-Hs that are fully painted for Union Pacific are Nos. 8505, 8502 and 8503 (west to east). After some stationary testing at both East Portal and Plainview, the four will be further tested on tonnage between Denver and the Moffat Tunnel.

just heritage schemes, not just commemorative schemes - this album is devoted to some of the world's most interesting paint schemes, past or present.
