In the aftermath of an August 2000 derailment of a coal train, someone with a sense of humor, or perhaps some kids having fun, decorated the spilled coal load of Rio Grande 100-ton quad hopper No. 16346 with some yard flamingos. The train spilled a few cars into the parking lot of a coffee hut, just missing the small structure in Hotchkiss, Colorado, on UP’s North Fork Branch.
