Norfolk Southern's paint shop in Chattanooga has rolled out what could be dubbed as the "21st Heritage Unit": Norfolk Portsmouth Belt Line GP38-2 #5260. NPBL is jointly owned by NS and CSX and serves the Norfolk/Chesapeake/Portsmouth, Virginia areas. Years ago, their switchers were painted in this scheme, but in recent times they have used locomotives leased from NS, painted solid black with block "NPBL" initials on the sides. 5260 was built as Penn Central 8044 in 1973, and later became Conrail 8044, then NS 5260.
