Remarks & Notes
Southern's Andover, VA-based derrick is working an L&N derailment at Dryden, VA. The 150-ton capacity machine was formerly steam-powered Interstate W-50. Southern had it upgraded and dieselized in 1969. The photographer lettered "Appalachia Division" on the boom while he was employed as a janitor at Andover, working evenings during college in 1968-70.
