Remarks & Notes
Uploaded just for RP contributor Joe Hinson, The Clinchfield 100 was the railroad's special monster weight business car built by the railroad, and ironically, the number according to estimates was about the total tons the car weighed. Originally an ACL passenger car, the car was purchased by CRR in 1952 and was built up with gratuitous amounts of sheet metal and skill that could be found by the gifted shop forces in Erwin. The car featured a lounge, bedrooms, galley, crew quarters, and a dining room; simply the best for the bosses, and a favorite for Clinchfield president Tom Moore. 35mm slide from my collection, photo by Arnie Burchardt.
