Often forgotten amidst the jaw-dropping images of glistening world-class passenger trains or 6-packs of shiny SD70MACs leading coal hoppers or Geep-led freight trains all running in overwhelmingly majestic and mind-blowingly gorgeous scenery is the fact that the Alaska Railroad also deals in the nitty gritty of railroad life. Here, ARR 3006 leads a lone hopper back towards the yard after switching out the Alaska Mill Feed & Garden Center along the fascinating and oft-overlooked APU Spur. This little spur runs about a mile off the mainline and serves a half-dozen or so local industries.
