Union Pacific #844 storms through Palisade Canyon on its way east towards its ultimate destination of Cheyenne, WY. This train is running on the former Western Pacific mainline, while the autorack train in the background is on the parallel ex-Southern Pacific main. These twin mainlines parallel each other across most of Nevada, with the scenic highlight being Palisade Canyon. Due to the Paired Track Agreement of 1924, all westbound traffic takes the ex-SP main, while eastbound traffic takes the ex-WP main. For 844, the canyon is familiar territory, as just over a week previously, the train went west on the ex-SP line.
