Remarks & Notes
What do you do when a traction motor seizes up on a locomotive in the middle of nowhere? Call a Mantis 30011! At Cadiz in the middle of the Mojave Desert east of Barstow, California, Burlington Northern Santa Fe GE Dash 9-44CW No. 4967 is lifted high in the air to remove faulty axle No. 2 from the front truck. A Tadano Mantis Corporation 30011 Truck/Rerailer does the honors with a highway truck-mounted crane with a capacity of 150-tons at an eleven foot radius. The bad axle/traction motor is now removed and out of the way, and can be seen on the other side of the locomotive under the lead truck.

Do you ever get the feeling as a model railroader, that you just might be creating something not "prototypical?" Same here.

Pictures of things often unseen in the world of railroading. Interesting equipment, operations, and people that help the railroad go around.
