Remarks & Notes
Westbound on the route of Amtrak's Cardinal, a deadhead move of 8 dead in tow Amtrak P40DC locomotives glides through St. Albans, westbound on the CSX Kanawha Subdivision. The locomotives are enroute to Beech Grove, IN at the location of Amtrak's large locomotive and rolling stock repair facility. The P40DC's will be salvaged of remaining operational parts after being idled several years ago in Wilmington, Delaware. Many of the remaining P40's, as pictured above display Amtrak's Phase IV paint scheme, replaced early in the 21st Century with today's Phase V scheme. The consist included locomotive numbers, AMTK 172, 125, 800, 801, 806, 803, 811, 839, 805, and 802. Today, as part of Amtrak's 40th Anniversary heritage program, AMTK 184 displays the Phase IV scheme.

Pictures of things often unseen in the world of railroading. Interesting equipment, operations, and people that help the railroad go around.
