Remarks & Notes
In the Autumn of 1977, Ross Rowland’s ex-Reading 2101 pounds east through Barboursville with the Chessie Steam Special. The big engine is bound for Charleston this morning, where she’ll pick up more passengers, then head for a pair of photo-runbys at Sewell, and then a mid-day arrival at Hinton. By tonight the 4-8-4 will have turned on the turntable there, taken on coal and water, and treated her 800 passengers to the foliage and beauty of the New River Gorge, before tying up at Huntington. Perhaps we didn’t fully appreciate how good we had it!

Good Light, Good Scenery, and a Train

Landscape photography is difficult due to the challenge of combining good light and good scenery. Good railroad photography enters another level of complexity since it requires the first two while there is a train in view.

Pictures of things often unseen in the world of railroading. Interesting equipment, operations, and people that help the railroad go around.
