Remarks & Notes
Slide Country. A D&RGW Conductor and Engineer step carefully among the rocks as they approach each other to confer on the plan to traverse a recently cleared slide. Throughout its history, the D&RGW Silverton Branch has been the site of many mud and rock slides during the spring snow melt and during summertime thunderstorms. It's a hazard that the train crews constantly have to be aware of, and one that can create monumental problems for the section crews who maintain the right-of-way.

The Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad and the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad are all that remains of the legendary Denver & Rio Grande Western narrow gauge system. Here you'll find some of my favorites from these two beautiful railways.
