Remarks & Notes
With the concept for this type of frog created in 1893, the spring rail frog has had numerous improvements to its design but the overall idea has remained the same; a continuous running surface for the heavy traffic side of the turnout while still allowing for the movement of trains from one track to another. This particular spring frog was created by Progress Rail Services’ DeCoursey, Kentucky plant and built with 115 lb per yard Bethlehem Steel rail as it patiently awaits installation on a RH turnout somewhere along the Western Railway of Alabama mainline.
