Norfolk & Western Railway: Norfolk Southern's fifth heritage locomotive, painted by the Altoona Locomotive Works idles near the roundhouse during the family portrait at Spencer, NC. Officially becoming the N&W Railway in 1881, the Norfolk & Western served as an essential coal route in Southern West Virginia and Virginia, connecting N&W's Lambert's Point Pier 6 to the coalfields.
