Remarks & Notes
Southern Railway 5226 followed by three more geeps lug a loaded coal train (aka the "Yuma Turn") through downtown Appalachia. This particular GP38-2 was equipped with radio-control to operate "mid-train" slave units, which after almost 33 years, I can't recall if this train had "slaves" or not. If it did, I have no photos to prove it. This was my one and only visit to Appalachia, so I'd like to thank Mr. Ron Flanary for his expert help in identifying the train and providing the above information. I also want to thank my good friend Don Maddock for his great slide scanning skills and equipment.
