Can you believe this beautiful structure was once derelict and was heading to demolition? In the 1960's, that was exactly the situation after the B&O stopped passenger service at it's gorgeous Mt. Royal Station in Baltimore, MD. Thankfully the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) decided the old station was the perfect solution for it's space problem. In a grand adaptive re-use, the college renovated the station including it's rare train shed. The shed, still covering an active CSX mainline, is one of only three passenger station shed's extant in the USA that I know of. This is truly one of railroad preservation's great success stories.
