As autumn rain clouds build up in the east, a quartet of rather dirty Class 18E’s is seen entering Argent station, with a long train of tarpaulin covered “DZ’s”, the most well known type of open wagon found on Southern Africa’s rail systems. Unfortunately, the 18E’s are not kept nearly as clean as their larger cousins, the Class 10E’s. The Kendal coal-fired power station is visible in the background, one of 13 major Eskom power plants operating on the coalfields of the Mpumalanga highveld.
