Terra Alta, WV 10/7/2010 - CSX signal maintainer Gerry Cathall inspects the interlocking machine inside Terra Alta tower on the former B&O Mountain Subdivision. The tower was closed more than two decades before, but in 2010, it still served a vital purpose, it's interlocking mechanisms remotely controlling a B&O CPL signal to the west of the tower. The red brace on the interlocking lever marked the one handle that had to remain in that position for the signal to function and light as an intermediate signal. The red brace prevented an accidental movement of the handle, which would render the signal out-of-service. The tower was demonlished and the signal replaced in 2011.
